The Steelers are in a terrible spot and, while not all hope is lost, the rest of the season looks bleak. The Steelers need big games from key players from here on out to turn the season into more than a dumpster fire.

The Steelers are in a dark time in their 2019 season. After losing Ben Roethlisberger in week two, it now appears Mason Rudolph will miss some time after the scary ht from Earl Thomas against the Ravens in week five.

The defense gave them all the chances in the world to win the game. However, failure to capitalize on turnovers and turning the ball over themselves at a crucial point led to their demise.

Looking ahead to the week six game against Los Angeles, the offense could be further behind the 8-ball with Devlin Hodges, possibly making his first career start in hostile territory on prime time television.

This is obviously not an ideal spot to be in with the bye week right around the corner for the Steelers. The odds are stacked against them, and the possibility of heading into their bye week at 1-5 is extremely real.

The Steelers have to lean on their playmakers on both sides of the ball to pick up the slack. These are trying times for a team reeling after a 1-4 start, and there needs to be veterans that step up and lead the team in time like this.

There are three x-factors that I believe will prove paramount in any chance the Steelers have at shocking the Chargers on Sunday night. These x-factors have to step up big if the Steelers want to pull off the upset.
