The Steelers can win if offensively…

Not only is there pressure on Duck, but there is also pressure on James Conner as well. Conner and Snell will be the duo until Jaylen Samuels returns.

The good news is the running game has improved since the 49ers game. Hopefully this week, Randy Fichtner will have some new concepts drawn up instead of recycling old plays (wildcat, anyone?)

The ground game will have to take advantage of the Chargers defense, which allowed nearly 200 yards rushing last week against Denver. The Chargers have a well-noted pass rush, but their run defense ranks in the bottom half of the league, allowing nearly 120 yards a game.

The run game will help the Steelers avoid doing what they did against the 49ers in Rudolph’s first start: live in their fears. Their best chance at winning is to have an effective run game and giving their rookie quarterback the confidence to sling the ball around.

The Steelers had a very conservative approach early against an excellent 49ers team. This lead to the defense getting worn down to a nub and not being able to stop the 49er rushing attack in the second half.

The Steelers will have to put a game plan together that lets Duck use his athleticism and gun-slinging ability. The one thing that Duck and company will have to make sure not to do is simple: turn the ball over.

Turnovers in inopportune times have killed the Steelers this year. Whether it was in the 3rd quarter against the Seahawks, 4th quarter against the 49ers, or overtime against the Ravens… they must help their defense and avoid turnovers.

The offense will have to be firing on all cylinders efficiently and cautiously. Their defense already has a big plate. Avoid turnovers and being effective by putting points on the board is crucial.
