The Steelers are have advanced to 5-4 after defeating the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. Here’s a recap of Pittsburgh’s dramatic finish.

The Steelers have gained some momentum in recent weeks, now they will be considered one of the hottest teams in the league. Pittsburgh headed into Week 10 against the Los Angeles Rams as underdogs, but it didn’t take long to see that the Steelers were controlling the pace of the game.

Things got off to a rocky start for Pittsburgh. On the very first drive of the game, an erred snap from Maurcike Pouncey flew over the head of Mason Rudolph, and the ball was scooped up by Dante Fowler for a touchdown.

Just seconds into the game, Pittsburgh was dealing with a 7-point deficit. As expected, the Steelers offense struggled to get things going on the ground, and they failed to sustain drives through the air. Mason Rudolph stood tough in the pocket for most of the games, but wasn’t aided by drops from JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson, James Washington, Vance McDonald, and Jaylen Samuels.

Eventually, Rudolph was able to muster up 242 yards and a touchdown en route to a 17-12 victory of over the Rams.

Though the Steelers ultimately got the job done, the credit for this victory again goes to the defense. Minkah Fitzpatrick came away with a fumble recovery for a touchdown (albeit on an iffy ruling), and he sealed the game with an interception on the Rams’ last final drive.

From the defensive line to deep in the secondary, Pittsburgh’s defense put up a fantastic showing that consisted of 4 takeaways and 4 sacks. Most impressively, the Steelers were able to get off the field on thrid downs – allowing Los Angeles to convert on just 1 of 14 attempts.

There are still plenty of worries on the offensive side of the ball, and it’s never encouraging to see the Steelers rush for just 1.6 yards per carry. However, this was a massive victory for Pittsburgh against a solid opponent. They will look to keep the intensity as they travel to Cleveland to face the 3-6 Browns. If they can find a way to improve on offense, this team could reach the playoffs this year.
