Defensive line and linebacker report cards vs. Rams

Defensive line: A+

Here’s where things start to look up. While the offensive line has taken a step back this season, the defensive line has taken a giant leap forward. T.J. Watt and Cameron Heyward were brilliant against Los Angeles – combining for 3 sacks, 3 tackles for a loss, and 5 quarterback hits. Their pressure helped keep Jared Goff in check as they allowed just a 22.3 quarterback rating in the game. Bud Dupree and Javon Hargrave also helped chip in against the run – holding Todd Gurley and company to 3.8 yards rushing on the afternoon.

Linebackers: B+

As always, we can expect Mark Barron to get beat in both zone and man coverage a time or two, but this was overall a very nice day by Pittsburgh’s linebackers. Devin Bush, Vince Williams, and Barron each came up to fill holes against the run, and they made a few nice plays in coverage. The arrow is currently pointed up with this group.
