The Steelers offense needs to right the ship against the Bengals. How can they do it?
To say the Steelers offense needs to get ‘right’ against the Bengals on Sunday is equivalent to saying the ‘Steel Curtain’ was a pretty good defense. It would be an understatement of epic proportions; however, that is precisely what the offense must, by any means necessary, do against the Bengals.
If you are into statistics as I am, here are some for you to ponder or lament, depending on your perspective: According to the official website of the NFL, the Steelers offense is currently ranked 28th in average yards per game, 27th in average passing yards per game, 27th in average rushing yards per game, 29th in total receiving yards, 24th in average points per game, 24th in total TDs and 26th in average time of possession per game.
Do those stats inspire confidence? I don’t think so. Do those stats make you believe that the offense can win a game if it had to? Nope, at least not for me. Do those stats tell you that the offense must turn it around or the Steelers will be on the outside looking in come playoff time? Absolutely.
I think the Bengals game will be a defining moment for the offense, despite the injuries to key players throughout ten games thus far of the 2019 season. The reason I say the game will be a defining moment is this: It has to be a defining moment; it has to be a game where we get the running game back on track, and we open up the playbook for Mason Rudolph.
Let’s delve a little deeper into how the offense can get ‘right’ in the running game.
