Steelers can win if offensively…

The first thing to mention: The Steelers are 3-0 when eclipsing 100 yards rushing.

Last week, the Steelers offense established a rhythm in the ground game, starting early with Kerrith Whyte and ending with Benny Snell.

What didn’t help was the poor play of Mason Rudolph and stale play calling by Randy Fichtner. Nonetheless, the offensive line closed the game out with Snell and finished out a miserable game.

It’s funny. The first time this season, Pittsburgh recorded 100 yards on the ground, Devlin Hodges was making his first start. They will need to provide the same support this week as he could be the guy to get the nod at quarterback.

Not only will the Steelers need to run effectively, but their pass protection will also need to be better. One thing that will help? Myles Garrett won’t be playing–and he wrecked the Steelers offensive line all game.

Regardless of who plays quarterback Sunday, the play-calling has to be better. It has been an issue all season. Calling a run with 6 linemen on second and long is not a good plan, for example. A screen on third and long, however, is not necessarily a bad plan.

This offense, at the end of the day, needs consistency. It will start with the offensive line, to the ground game, and beyond. The offense must execute better if they want a shot at this game.
