The Steelers host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Here’s why Terrell, Tremaine, and Trey Edmunds will go down in the history books.

The Steelers and the Bills will collectively make history this weekend as they face each other at Heinz Field. However, it’s not because of Buffalo’s miraculous bounce-back season or Pittsburgh’s excellent eight-game stretch to get them back into a wildcard spot. It’s because of three players who will step foot on the field together at the same time.

Tremaine, Terrell, and Trey Edmunds are one of the only trios of brothers currently playing in the NFL. All three are Virginia Tech alumn, and remarkably, they played at the same time in college.

However, Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network reports that this week will mark the first time since 1927 that three brothers will play together in the same football game:

While this may not seem like such a big deal, it’s been 92 years since this has last happened. Think about these odds for a second: It’s crazy enough to think that three siblings would all be playing in the NFL – a league for the best of the best – at the same time. On top of that, the odds of two brothers landing on the same team aren’t good, and that team (the Steelers) would need to play the team with the third brother (the Bills) while all three are still in the NFL together.

Based on the odds, this is something that you and I likely won’t see again in our lifetimes. Even incredibly athletically gifted families, like the Watt’s for example, will never have this happen unless a brother joins the team of another and they play against the team with the third brother on it.

I know once the game kicks off, fans from both sides are only going to care about what is taking place on the turf and who will emerge victorious. Still, having three brothers playing in the same NFL game is like watching a meteor shower that occurs once in a lifetime. The world may not see something like this again for another 100 years.
