Steelers have big off-season decisions to make
By Mike Pelaia
Cuts:
QB Duck Hodges – Thank you Duck for all you did this rookie year but the team needs to find a true future QB and backup to Big Ben and there is no room for Hodges on this roster as they do that via the draft or signing a veteran for insurance this offseason. He’ll be in camp but that’s where it will end.
WR Ryan Switzer – I like Switzer. He’s a good, positive guy and brings an energy to the locker room. Unfortunately, he doesn’t bring anything to the football field. He has to go.
T Ramon Foster – Foster has done a lot for this team over the years and was a very good tackle but his contract is now outweighing his performance. They’ll need to sign Feiler and draft someone and let him move on.
TE Vance McDonald – I think McDonald could be a stud but Randy Fichtner doesn’t know what a play call to a tight end even is so why overpay this guy? He’s got to go and the Steelers can find cheaper options.
LB Mark Barron – He was a free agent bust, in my opinion. With Devin Bush being the guy, there is no reason to pay Barron. Let him go.
LB Anthony Chickillo – What has this guy ever done, really? Aside from being accused of domestic violence. I don’t think he should have been kept around, kick him to the curb, now.
WR Johnny Holton – He’s not good. See ya.
The offseason is just getting going and we’ll see how this plays out over time but I expect there won’t be too many surprises with the players mentioned above and the front office will make the right decisions to ensure this team is as competitive as possible in 2020 and beyond.
