Steelers possible 2020 draft targets
The Pittsburgh Steelers sit without their first-round pick for the first time in years, but here are some good gets for them when they do hand in the card.
The Steelers traded away their first-round pick (18th overall) to the Miami Dolphins for 1st team all-pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The trade was a good one as the team turned the season around and went 8-8 after expecting to have a rough outing.
When losing their franchise Quarterback in game two of the season, people had written off the Steelers for that season. After a gritty and tough season the Steelers were able to grind their way to a .500 season. Now with their second-round pick (50) overall and a compensatory third-rounder, from the loss of Le’Veon Bell, the Steelers have a chance to add some talent.
These are some possible targets for the Steelers to get when they pick in Las Vegas this April.
Steelers Potential Draft Options
When you look at the Pittsburgh Steelers you see some glaring holes. This past season it was obviously Quarterback but you have the franchise coming back to play next year in Ben Roethlisberger.
As far as needs for this team goes, it was some obvious positions. Tight End, Defensive Line, Defensive Back, Offensive Line, Edge Rusher
Now Edge rusher is not as big of a need as Bud Dupree seems like a possible player coming back one way or another next season. If he does leave then the Steelers will need to push Edge Rusher and Outside Linebacker to the top of their needs. This list is also being made before any free agent signings have happened.
Here are some possible options…
JK Dobbins, RB, Ohio State
Now this position is unlikely to be selected and it is up for debate whether Dobbins would fall this far in the draft. But he had a great career as a Buckeye and the Steelers love Ohio State players. The running back group is crowded and this pick is unlikely, with injuries happening often in the stables this could be a shocking pick.
Other to consider would be Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin and Chuba Hubbard, RB. Oklahoma State
Colby Parkinson, TE, Stanford
This is the biggest need for the Steelers heading into the off-season. Parkinson’s stats will not wow you this season but he has the size and athletic ability to turn into a great piece for this offense. Tight End seems to be the most likely pick in the second round for this team.
Other options could be…
Hunter Bryant, TE, Washington, and Albert Okwuegbunam, TE, Missouri
Julian Okwara, OLB, Notre Dame
Here is another impressive athlete that could be molded into something special if Bud Dupree leaves this off-season. He has good size and speed around the edge. Notre Dame is another school that the Steelers look at heavily in the scouting process for potential prospects
Other draft options to consider…
KJ Hamler, WR, Penn State, Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR, Liberty, Carlos Basham Jr, DL, Wake Forest Curtis Weaver, EDGE, Boise State, Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah Anfernee Jennings, LB, Alabama
Those are some of the potential picks the Steelers could be interested in as we lead up to the 2020 NFL Draft.
