The Steelers offense had only a modicum of success in 2019

According to the official website of the NFL, the Steelers offense finished the 2019 season ranked 30th in average yards per game, 29th in average rushing yards per game, 31st in passing yards per game,  27th in average points per game and 28th in total TD’s. That is the epitome of ‘sub-par’ performance.

I think the above statistics unequivocally illustrate the modicum of success the Steelers offense had during the 2019 season. I know what you’re thinking:  How could you say the Steelers offense in 2019 had a modicum of success based on the above statistics?  Well, that’s a good question.

Despite the paltry numbers the offense generated throughout the 2019 season, we did win 8 games.  The offense did score some points on its own, just not enough when it mattered, unfortunately.  To put his into perspective, the team that finished the 2019 season with the best offense in terms of average yards per game with 431.5 yards, the Dallas Cowboys, were also watching the playoffs on TV or on a laptop or a phone or whatever device was available to them.

The Steelers offense will be represented in the Pro BowlMaurkice Pouncey and David DeCastro were named to the AFC Pro Bowl squad.  I realize being voted to the Pro Bowl may be more of a popularity contest these days, but, two starters made it, nonetheless.

Ironically, two ‘O’ lineman made the Pro Bowl considering the awful numbers that were put up in both the running game and in the passing game, but the ‘O’ line did finish in the top ten in both sacks allowed and in QB hits allowed.  So, as I stated, a modicum of success on the offensive side of the ball.

Let’s take a look at how the Steelers fared on the defensive side of the ball.
