5 worst Steelers draft picks of the Kevin Colbert era
By Eric Hassel
The Steelers long-time Gm has presided over really good and really bad drafts
There’s no doubt that the Kevin Colbert era has brought the Steelers exceptional players; there’s also no doubt that the Kevin Colbert era has produced some very questionable draft picks. I understand that no team will ‘hit’ on every draft pick, but for us to ‘miss’ on first-round and second-round picks, for example, is detrimental in several respects.
‘Missing’ on a first-round pick, like Artie Burns and Jarvis Jones, sets an organization back for years to come. For a team that once drafted four Hall of Famers in a single draft, the Kevin Colbert era, in my opinion, can be described as mostly successful, but not entirely successful.
Signed through at least the 2021 draft, I really hope that Colbert and company get back to drafting Pro Bowl, All-Pro and Hall of Players as opposed to drafting players at the top end of the draft who neither make an impact on the team nor see at least a second contract with the Steelers.
Hope is not a plan, however. A plan is a plan and the plan for the next two drafts has to be to draft the best available players regardless of position or need.
