Steelers draft: 5 second round prospects who are perfects fits in Pittsburgh
By Tommy Jaggi
Zach Baun, OLB Wisconsin
Now I’m dreaming here. If Zach Baun can make it this far in the draft, the Steelers should run to the podium. Baun has everything the Steelers look for in an outside linebacker prospect. He’s incredibly productive with excellent bend and an array of moves.
Pittsburgh already had terrific success with T.J. Watt a few years back, and while Baun doesn’t have the same size (6’3” and 240 pounds), he was even more productive than Watt in his final season. Like Cuchenburry, Baun dominated in one-on-ones at the Senior Bowl, and I have very little doubt that he will be great at the next level.
Baun is ideal for Pittsburgh’s 3-4 defense that doesn’t require edge players to play with their hand in the dirt. He also has experience in coverage and position flexibility to be an excellent Buck linebacker if things don’t work out as a full-time edge defender.
