Cole Kmet

TE Notre Dame

Cole Kmet isn’t the most NFL-ready prospect, but he does have a lot of things going for him that the Steelers covet. He is big and athletic with solid production last year. Kmet was also a dual-sport college athlete who declared early for the draft.

For the Steelers, Kmet would likely start as the number two or three tight end, but he has the tools and frame to be a long-time NFL starter with Pro Bowl upside if everything works out well for him. If he can put up solid testing numbers, he will be on the Steelers radar on day two of the NFL Draft.

Jacob Eason

QB Washington

The Steelers can throw out the smoke screens all they want, but the fact of the matter is there’s no way they don’t have interest in Jacob Eason if he starts to slip in the draft. As a former 5-star recruit, Eason is a big, strong, productive quarterback who can fire the ball into a closing window and can drop it into a bucket down the field.

He is surprisingly mobile for a man his size, and he has the ability to both throw well in timing and extend the play. We may not be able to tell a whole lot from his testing at the Combine, but keep an eye out for a meeting with Eason and Tomlin or Colbert.

There is no guarantee that the Steelers will covet any of the names mentioned above, but based on their drafting strategies in recent years and where these players are projected to fall, there is a real possibility that Pittsburgh’s front office will find interest in them. Keep a close eye on them this weekend.
