The new league year is fast approaching and the Steelers are going to face a lot of decisions in the coming months. There are five players who may wear new uniforms in 2020.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have always been known to work close to the salary cap and this offseason will be no different. They currently sit at just under $1.6 million in cap space headed toward the new league year.

This leaves them very little room to work with to sign new players and keep some of the players who are seeing their current deals expire.

The Steelers have some holes they need to fill and, with so little cap space, they may be forced to terminate contracts of some current players who are signed through 2020. The NFL is a business and some players are making too much to validate keeping them.

The Steelers could also contact some of the higher paid players on the team and their agents to request a possible restructure. Some players have done this before including Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Heyward, and other higher-paid guys.

Restructuring contracts only saves so much space, however, and there must be more moves to be made. Whether there are players that are older and making a lot of money or players that are under-performing their current deals, there are ways for the Steelers to save some cap space.

In this case, five players could be finished in Pittsburgh. The Steelers will have some tough decisions to make with these players when the offseason hits.
