Steelers Mock Draft: Pittsburgh takes unusual route with new compensatory pick

6th round (pick 198): Alex Taylor
Offensive tackle, South Carolina State
Alex Taylor seems like the type of day-three pick the Steelers typically like to make. Offensive tackle is a position that should be on Pittsburgh’s radar, and Taylor has incredible size and length.
Though the South Carolina State product doesn’t always play with leverage and lacks ideal power for the NFL, he has plenty of room to grow into his massive frame. Taylor is listed 6’9” and 308 pounds. Alejandro Villanueva had an even slighter frame at 6’9” coming out of college, and Taylor has less fine-tuning to do.
The Steelers tackle situation could be a mess after next season, as there is a chance that Villanueva and Feiler could both be gone. As of now, former 2018 third-round pick, Chukwuma Okorafor, is the only offensive tackle under contract for the Steelers in 2021.
Taylor is a raw, small-school project, but he’s one that I have Pittsburgh taking a chance on in my latest Steelers mock draft.
