7th round (pick 232): Darrion Daniels
Defensive tackle, Nebraska
With so many positions to address, I have Pittsburgh ignoring the defensive line until their last pick in my latest Steelers mock draft. While it will be necessary to find a replacement for Javon Hargrave, they may be able to address that in a loaded free-agent group of defensive tackles.
If they don’t, Pittsburgh may be best off waiting until day three. Defensive tackle is considered to be one of the weakest positional groups in the 2020 draft, and they could be content going with a guy like Darrion Daniels late in the draft.
At 6’4” and 322 pounds, Daniels doesn’t have nearly as much speed or explosion as Javon Hargrave, but he’s a space-eater who can come in and compete for snaps in their base defense – assuming he makes it past training camp.
Drafting a player in the seventh round is always a longshot to make the team, but Daniels will have a chance thanks to some poor depth at the position.
Pittsburgh will have a lot more of their roster figured out between now and April, so their needs are obviously subject to change. As of now, I have them looking for running back and cornerback help early in my 2020 Steelers mock draft.
