Ranking the Steelers options to replace Ramon Foster
By Andrew Falce
The “best” of the rest:
- Max Garcia, Arizona Cardinals
- Parker Ehinger, Baltimore Ravens
- Derwin Gray, Pittsburgh Steelers
Like all third-tier options, these guys shouldn’t be seen as anything more than last-ditch, break glass in case of emergency options. Max Garcia makes the most sense here, as the Steelers showed some pre-draft interest in him and he has some legitimate starting experience. Injuries have set him back recently, which should cause his price tag to be minimal. While having him start may be a long shot, he could be a cheap fill in to provide veteran depth along with the interior of the line.
Parker Ehinger has good size but has never developed into much more than a backup. His price should be cheap, and cheap veteran depth along the line can’t hurt. Derwin Gray spent the entire year on the practice squad but was a draft pick last season. He may be a longshot, but he has a full year of NFL conditioning and training to build off of.
The Steelers have some options when it comes to interior offensive line solutions. The most likely scenario begins with Feiler moving from RT to OG to instantly fill the void from cutting Ramon Foster. After that, anything is possible. My guess would be the Steelers sign one of the two options from the third list for the minimum. After that, adding an interior piece from any of the first two lists is in play to develop as the long-term replacement.
