CB Byron Jones

Flipping from the most difficult position on offense to the most difficult position on defense, we now move the scope over to CB Byron Jones. As Prescott moves the needle for opinions due to how people gauge his talent in relation to his talent, is how people are doing the same for Byron Jones & interceptions.

Fresh off his rookie deal, the versatility & athleticism Jones offers is nearly unparalleled against his counterparts. Beginning as safety, due to the needs of the Cowboys, but then converting as a full-time CB under DC Kris Richard, the production speaks for itself.

Idle of INTs the past two years, Jones has still been able to break up 20 passes while only allowing a 53 completion percentage-high since 2018. In a defensive system that played a great amount of man to man coverage, Jones was left in man-to-man situations often. Challenged by Richard, Jones stepped up to the plate & here’s a glimpse of what he was able to do:

Thus making the 2nd-team All-Pro list in 2018, 19’ was still a good year, although his success didn’t reap any awards as the defense of the Cowboys as a whole took a step back. Even in the nature of their suffering, PFF is still in high regard to Jones’ abilities.

Currently, decimated at the CB position with only 4 active on roster, the Steelers need to address their depth, but what if they could add a young, extremely-well proven talent to pair with Steven Nelson for years to come? Although Joe Haden is on a revival for his career, an expiring contract in 2021 puts his future in question, but one that could be answered by the Steelers if this were to happen.
