7th round: Dezmon Patmon

Wide receiver, Washington State

This is hardly the first time the Steelers have doubled up at the wide receiver position, and it won’t be their last. What better year to do it on than 2020 – one of the best receiver classes we have seen in quite some time.

I have Pittsburgh going with a player who is quite the opposite of Tyler Johnson in the 7th round. Dezmon Patmon is a very interesting prospect. At 6’4” and 225 pounds, Patmon ran a 4.48 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, and exploded with a 36” vertical and an eye-popping 132” broad jump.

With very little wide receiver depth on the team, Patmon would stand a solid shot at making the final roster. While he wasn’t a highly productive college player, he offers plenty of upside with his rare combination of size and athleticism. He’s an ideal candidate for a late-round flier.

It’s always hard to say exactly how the draft will go, but based on what the Steelers have done in free agency so far, this could be the direction they look. Keep your eyes peeled for changes in the coming weeks.
