7th round, 232nd overall

Charlie Woerner, TE, Georgia

While the Steelers did sign Eric Ebron to a 2-year deal this offseason, the long term viability at the position is still in question Vance McDonald and Ebron should split time as co-starters, but neither are on long term deals and both have their fair share of warts. Zach Gentry, meanwhile, only caught one pass last season is a complete mystery as a prospect.

Charlie Woerner isn’t a mystery; he’s a high floor low ceiling blocking TE. He’ll never be a starter nor a go-to option, but he should find a niche in the NFL as a blocking TE. The Steelers had their issues blocking from this position last year, so adding a guy like Woerner would be a plus. He or Gentry would be the #3 TE while the other would find a nice spot on the practice squad to continue developing.

dark. Next. Updated Steelers draft needs after early free agency

Trading back in this mock was helpful, as it gave the Steelers an extra third and an extra pick overall in the draft. This mock addresses a lot of depth needs as well as giving a key starter at NT and OT. There is still a need for depth at ILB, but unfortunately, all positions can’t be addressed. If the draft fell like this, I believe it would give the Steelers a decent haul to build around in the future.
