Alton Robinson

Edge defender, Syracuse

Alton Robinson is a very interesting prospect as an edge defender. Though his production took a bit of a dip in 2019 (9.0 tackles for a loss, 4.0 sacks), he was incredibly productive in his junior season – earning 17.0 tackles for a loss, 10.0 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries in 12 games.

In addition to his production, Robinson also has intriguing ‘tweener’ size for position. Robinson stands at 6’3” and weighs 264 pounds – a very similar build as Lamarr Woodley coming out of Michigan in 2007.

There is no doubt that the Steelers could use some depth on the edge, and Bud Dupree’s future is still uncertain after the 2020 season. Robinson could be a nice mid-round pick who could eventually take over full-time duties if Dupree moves on.

The Syracuse product could slip a bit in the draft due to the upside of some of the other pass rushers in this class. Pittsburgh will likely miss out on players like Josh Uche and Julian Okwara if they don’t take them in the second. Robinson could come at a bit of a discount, assuming he is still on the board in round three.
