Devlin Hodges

I’ll admit, Devlin Hodges was a player I was rooting hard for last season. After seeing how much Mason Rudolph struggled before he was ultimately benched I was hoping (but not expecting) that Hodges would be the answer to Pittsburgh’s offensive problems. But Devlin Hodges is not Garner Minshew.

Though he was a rookie in 2019 and started just 6 games, I have seen enough of Hodges to know what he can’t be in the NFL. Hodges has adequate mobility in the pocket, but his arm strength is well below average for an NFL quarterback, and his accuracy is all over the place.

Hodges graded out dead last among quarterbacks this year with a dismal 45.8 grade, according to Pro Football Focus. He’s not a short-term answer for the Steelers, and he has no upside as a long-term developmental prospect. There’s no reason for him to be on the roster in 2020.

Next. Steelers don’t have a QB need despite free agent rumors. dark

It’s possible that all four players I mentioned are on Pittsburgh’s roster in 2020, and the Steelers and I clearly disagree as they have kept some players too long. Still, these are the four guys who have no business sticking around for another season.
