Round Six, Pick 19: Nevelle Clark, CB, UCF
I think the Steelers can find a diamond in the rough here. I like this cornerback class and you can never have too many cornerbacks. The Steelers have a solid top four going into the season and Justin Layne is a third-round pick.
A sixth-round pick is not too much risk for a guy who could turn out to be a very good cornerback. I think he could fit into the Steelers scheme whether they want to run zone or man with their outside corners.
There is a lot to like about his tape. He stays in phase well in man coverage and that is very important in today’s NFL. If you need him to be a press corner, he can be. He also has good awareness in zone coverage.
I like that he opens his hips on time for deep balls. He’s not stiff hipped and he doesn’t over anticipate a deep ball either.
I like that he is a sure tackler. Tackling is important in the secondary and that is something that he brings. I also think he has good ball skills. We saw with Minkah Fitzpatrick last year how that can be important in the secondary.
