Round Seven, Pick 18: Justin Herron, OT, Wake Forrest

The Steelers have done well with seventh-round and undrafted offensive linemen. They have been able to develop guys from the back-end of the roster or even the practice squad to becoming successful NFL starters.

Justin Herron is a good character guy. He went to a prestigious academic institution and has a master’s degree. You can read my interview on this link.

Justin Herron has good tape too. He is a mauler as a run blocker and is average as a pass blocker. He moves decently well for his size and packs a good punch. I think there is a technical fix to his pass blocking that could make him a good NFL tackle.

The part that needs to be fixed is his stance in pass blocking. He lunges too low to try to get under the defender. It would be better if he stayed in an athletic stance and kept his body powerfully low to take on pass rushers with good technique.

This is definitely someone who could come in and make the roster as a seventh-round pick. They need all the depth they can get on the offensive line with all the possible injuries.

I think this would be a nice find in the seventh-round even if he isn’t a polished product.
