Steelers Mock Draft: Pittsburgh adds youth to the trenches
By Edward Hunt
Conclusion:
This draft would certainly help the Steelers. They could add depth at positions of need and build a pipeline of talent to keep feeding through as guys age. Each of those guys showed good things on tape and have the ability to be NFL starters.
I think the Steelers will have to look for a nose tackle, wide receiver, and interior offensive line early. I also think they can’t wait too long to take a safety. Depth is key in an NFL season and by the NFL CBA, this will be an even longer one.
My scouting is based on what I see on tape and I don’t look at highlights because they are biased. Highlights only show what a player does well, it doesn’t show their weaknesses. I want to see the player’s weaknesses because every player has them.
This mock draft got a nose tackle that the Steelers could plugin right away. It also got an interior lineman who could eventually start. It got a wide receiver that is a good player and can get separation with speed. I also got a versatile safety who can help in the dime package.
There were also some finds later in the draft. I liked finding Nevelle Clark as I think he is a sleeper that will outperform his draft status. I also think Justin Herron can last in the NFL.
It’s hard to predict who the Steelers will pick although I have gotten picks right before. This mock focused on who I want them to get in this draft and I am hoping the Steelers brass will be like-minded.
