Steelers draft: Best case scenario at each position in the second round

With the NFL Combine finished, we have a better idea of which players will be available to the Steelers in the second round. Here is the best-case scenario at each position for Pittsburgh.

Grading players solely off their performance at the NFL Combine isn’t a great way to evaluate NFL talent. However, testing numbers help give us a better indication of where players may land in the 2020 NFL Draft in April. Though the Steelers are without their first-round pick in 2020, we can dig down the list to see which talent could be available to Pittsburgh in round two.

There has been a lot of speculation this offseason as to which direction Pittsburgh could look early in the draft. Though Javon Hargrave will be signing with another team and Bud Dupree may be returning for just one more season under the franchise tag, the Steelers still have their share of trouble on the offensive side of the ball.

Pittsburgh possessed the league’s 30th ranked offense last year, according to Team Rankings, and finding help for an aging Ben Roethlisberger seems like a must early in the draft. However, their Combine meetings could suggest otherwise.

The Steelers reportedly met with twelve players at varying positions, according to Walter Football’s NFL Prospect Visit Tracker. The list of visits included 4 defensive backs, 2 running backs, 2 edge defenders, 2 offensive linemen, 1 tight end, and 1 wide receiver.

While their visits give us a small insight into their plans, they are hardly the best predictor of which direction the Steelers will go early in April. The fact is, Pittsburgh could use a lot of things. Here is my prediction of who will be the best player available at each position when the Steelers are on the clock with the 49th overall pick:
