S/LB Jeremy Chinn

Sticking with small-school products, here’s another one that is flying up draft boards, yet the Steelers won’t have interest in. Jeremy Chinn was a wildly productive college safety at Southern Illinois who earned 13 interceptions in four seasons.

Muck like Dugger, Chinn has an intriguing blend of size and athletic traits, but Chinn’s metrics are even more impressive. At 6’3” and 221 pounds, there have already been talks of moving Chinn to linebacker in the NFL. With a 4.45-second 40, a 41” vertical, and 138” broad jump, Chinn would instantly become one of the most athletic linebackers in the league.

Unfortunately, if history tells us anything, it’s that Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert don’t like to take risks on small-school players this early in the draft. Though I would strongly consider making an exception for Jeremy Chinn, they don’t really stray from their formula. Some team may find a diamond in the rough with Chinn, but it won’t be the Steelers.
