Steelers Mock Draft: Unexpected talent falls to the Steelers
By Andrew Falce
Round 6
Joe Reed, WR, Virginia
While this is a later selection than I wanted to make at WR, the depth of this class still means the Steelers get a player with upside in the 6th round. Joe Reed is a jack of all trades type of WR, one who can play multiple positions pretty well. This means he will be a well-rounded depth piece behind the starters.

Reed is also athletic and has some return abilities contributing to the value he has in the 6th round. While he may not be a future starter, he is a type of player that will be valuable at multiple different positions while he is on the team. As well, his athletic profile is great for a player his size. The value he brings in the 6th round is well worth the investment.

Round 7
Jon Runyan Jr., OL, Michigan
Jon Runyan Jr. is an interesting prospect simply due to his versatility. He has played everywhere on the offensive line while at Michigan, which translates to him being a multi-faceted backup in the NFL. He has ties to the pro scene as well, as his father played in the NFL. He comes from a strong school and can play anywhere on the line aiding to his cause to end up with the Steelers.

While he will likely have to make a stop on the practice squad early on, Runyan has the potential to be a complete backup, something that is always valuable to have on offense. While he may never transcend to a starting position, offensive lines are thin in the NFL, so having one that can play almost anywhere is a great backup to have.
Others considered: James Proche, Trevon Hill
The biggest issue with this draft is it doesn’t fill arguably the Steeler’s biggest need: NT. While I did find a way to fill that position in some of the other sims, it never made it to the final version of this mock. Overall though this mock possesses a lot of talented players that would contribute both next year and long term after that.
