3rd round (comp): Saahdiq Charles

Offensive tackle, LSU

I have the Steelers going back-to-back trench players in my latest mock draft. After addressing the defensive tackle position with their first selection, I have them turning their sights towards offensive tackle. Saahdiq Charles is a player I can see Pittsburgh having an interest in.

Charles is a 20-year-old offensive tackle for a championship program. Pittsburgh is no strangers to drafting LSU tackles either, as they selected Jerald Hawkins in the 4th round back in 2016. Hawkins’s career was shortened by nagging injuries, but that may not be enough for the Steelers to avoid drafting Charles.

Tackle is clearly becoming a need for Pittsburgh. Alejandro Villanueva turns 32 years old this season and is on the last year of his deal. Meanwhile, if Matt Feiler kicks inside to guard, the Steelers will have Zach Banner and Chukwuma Okorafor battling it out at right tackle. Even if one of the two emerges as a solid starter, Pittsburgh still needs to look for a player who could eventually take over at left tackle.

I’m not the biggest Saahdiq Charles fan, but I think he will be on their radar if they miss out on the waive of tackles that could go before their second-round pick.
