Round 4, 124th overall

Brandon Jones, S, Texas

Brandon Jones has been a favorite of mine since early in this process, as his hard-hitting and versatile nature makes him a solid candidate to be a rotational player early in his NFL career. His stock has taken a hit due to him not being able to test (he was injured early in the process and the pre-draft process has been thrown off). That said, all you need to do is watch his tape to see a player who deserves to be in the NFL.

He played every S spot while at Texas, but his best fit is at SS or down in the box as his coverage skills are the most in question. This isn’t to say he can’t cover, but the deeper he lines up the more he gets exposed. As well, he doesn’t have any truly elite traits, making his starting upside limited. That said, he would be a valuable backup who would see playing time in sub packages and in case of injury.

Without a doubt, the depth at S is thin, meaning Jones would be primed to be the top backup. While he will likely never be an elite starter, he screams long term consistency and solid production. He could sub in at SS during certain packages and let Terrell Edmunds play more in the box. Adding depth here is a must, and Jones presents good value in the third round.

Others Considered: Tyler Biadasz, Van Jefferson, Rashard Lawrence
