Steelers Mock Draft: Adding talent and depth across the board
By Andrew Falce
Round 4, 135th overall
Alton Robinson, EDGE, Syracuse
The Steelers have expressed a lot of interest in the EDGE class this year even though they brought back Bud Dupree on the Franchise Tag. Even with that, the depth at the position is unknown, meaning the Steelers could target the position earlier than thought. Alton Robinson is a talented option who could fill in as a quality depth option for the team.
Robinson is an athletic but raw pass rusher who needs to improve is run defense before becoming a starter. There isn’t any guarantee he makes that jump, but his floor seems like a situational pass rusher. He could serve that role his rookie season along with side some of their Toledo youngsters.
He isn’t ready to contribute right away outside of obvious passing situations, but he should develop into a situational player over time. Making the jump to starter isn’t a guarantee, but it isn’t impossible for him either. At the very least, he should add to the depth at EDGE and be a solid mix in with their current depth.
