6th round (pick 198): Josh Metellus

Safety, Michigan

The Steelers finally snag the safety depth they desperately need. Josh Metellus is not a player that’s ever going to compete with Terrell Edmunds for a starting gig, but he’s a solid athlete and has the ability to stick on an NFL roster.

Metellus is probably going to be a player who is more comfortable the closer he plays to the line of scrimmage, but he has some coverage ability on the back end. With a severe lack of depth at the position, safety is something that the Steelers will almost assuredly address in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Though it’s possible they could look for this position sooner, it’s not an overly talented group this year. Still, Mike Tomlin loves his Michigan players, and I have them taking one at a position of need in the 6th round.
