7th round (pick 232): John Reid

Cornerback, Penn State

At this point in the draft, a cornerback is going to stand a much better chance of making the team than a defensive tackle. Artie Burns left via free agency this offseason, and the Steelers have a spot up for grabs.

Mike Hilton and Cameron Sutton are both set to become free agents after the 2020 season. If they happen to lose both players, Pittsburgh needs an option at corner in their nickel defense. John Reid is a local player from Penn State with tools worth gambling on. Reid ran 4.49 at the NFL Combine to go with his 36.5” vertical and 3.97 20-yard shuttle.

Though he was an outside corner at Penn State, Reid may be forced to kick inside at the next level due to height and length limitations. However, Reid is a fluid player who has the ability to mirror receivers. Some team could gamble on his traits before this point in the draft, but if he’s still here, Pittsburgh would like to take a shot at him.

The Steelers will be looking to fill all of these needs in the draft, and nose tackle is something I just didn’t have enough picks to address. It will be interesting to see how they prioritize positions during the draft.
