Will there be a run on running backs early in the second round?

There are some questions about the injury status of James Conner. The Steelers have been hush about whether James Conner could carry the load in 2020.

We do know that James Conner was out for a prolonged period of time in 2019. Could they draft his replacement? Three running backs are available that could carry the load for the Steelers in 2020.

The three names on my mind are Jonathan Taylor, JK Dobbins, and D’Andre Swift. All three were not taken in the first round because of their workload in college. They all are great running backs though.

The problem with the running back position is that the position is constantly taking hits and being tackled. One player told me that you have to be crazy to be a running back and he was a draft prospect at running back.

When the NFL was more running oriented, players like Dobbins, Taylor, and Swift would be surefire first-round picks. However, teams may jump all over them because it is the second round. The Steelers don’t pick until the middle of the second-round; so, they could miss out on all three of those players. Teams might be more comfortable giving up a second-round pick.
