Who did Kiper rate #1 in 2011?
I almost feel guilty posting this one but it proves my point so why not?
Team: Detroit Lions
Year: 2011
Mel Kiper’s Draft Grade: A-
Kiper’s Draft Rank: 1
Round 1: Nick Fairley, Auburn DT
Round 2: Titus Young, Boise State WR
Round 2: Mike Leshoure, Illinois RB
Round 5: Douglas Hogue, Syracuse OLB
Round 7: Johnny Culbreath, South Carolina State OT
Kiper’s Comments: Detroit hit home runs all over in terms of value, but the question is whether the Lions did enough to help the talent level in a way that can further conceal weaknesses.
Reality: Remember when Nick Fairley became the darling of the draft after dominating Oregon in the BCS National Championship game? Yeah. That was pretty much his career highlight, be it professionally or in college. How about that juggernaut Titus Young? Umm… uhhh. Mike Leshoure? Crickets? Well, certainly Douglas Hogue did… something? No. Oh. Okay. At least Johnny Culbreath… oh, well, forget about it.
