Predicting Steelers starting lineup to start the 2020 NFL season
By Tommy Jaggi
Starting special teams
Kicker: Chris Boswell
What a way for Boswell to jump back in 2019 as he improved his field goal percentage from 65.0 percent in 2018 to 93.5 percent last season. He’s not going anywhere.
Punter: Jordan Berry
There is an outside chance that another camp leg could beat out Jordan Berry, but he did well enough last year to earn another season with the team.
Kick returner: Anthony McFarland
The rookie running back had just one kick return in college, but it went for 40 yards. Ryan Switzer was very inefficient last year, and if the Steelers want to find a way to get him on the field early, they could use the speedster running back on kick returns.
Punt returner: Diontae Johnson
Ryan Switzer is already on a short leash, and he’s still not a lock to make the team in 2020. I think Johnson is a better return man, and as long as they aren’t concerned about him getting injured, Pittsburgh could use him here this year.
I feel pretty comfortable about these players being penciled in as starters to begin the season. The most difficult spots to predict come with a shakeup in the offensive line after the loss of Ramon Foster and at defensive tackle with Hargrave gone. Still, I think there’s a good chance this is the starting lineup we are looking at to start the 2020 season.
