RB Anthony McFarland

Anthony McFarland is simply a different type of runner than anyone the Steelers have had in quite some time. When it comes to drafting the running back position, Pittsburgh typically has certain things they look for. Most of their backs are at least 5’10” and 215 with a frame to carry the load between the tackles.

McFarland has neither of these things. But what he does have is elite top-end speed (4.44 at the NFL Combine) – something every other back on the team is severely lacking. McFarland could be eased into action early, but if he starts busting out some big runs, it will be hard to keep him off the field.

Though the fourth-round pick may not be able to do all of the dirty work between the tackles, his speed and burst are something the Steelers should quickly fall in love with, and he could earn a sizeable role even as a mid-round rookie draft choice.
