QB Landry Jones

Landry Jones has retired from the NFL, but I still think he could be a backup if needed. Teams don’t see the need to carry him as a number three quarterback if he doesn’t have the upside.

Jones played in the XFL, although the league disbanded after the Coronavirus outbreak. He was the face of the XFL in the beginning.

To further prove my point, there was a story from ESPN that the Steelers were interested in resigning Landry Jones when he was under contract with the XFL. This proves the Steelers would have him back as a backup.

Jones was never going to be a starter for the Steelers, but I think he could have started some games in 2019 with Ben Roethlisberger injured. He may be a better quarterback than backup Mason Rudolph. I think the reason Rudolph is the backup is because of the upside.

Jones is only 31 years old and although that is old for a running back, it is still mid-career for a quarterback. When guys like Tom Brady and Drew Brees are playing into their 40s, it seems very plausible that Landry Jones could play at 31.
