S Minkah Fitzpatrick: 2nd round (pick 47)

Just five picks after T.J. Watt is drafted by the New England Patriots, Minkah Fitzpatrick lands with the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 47th overall pick. ESPN’s Brooke Pryor made this selection, and it would be hard for Kevin Colbert to pass on him here.

Minkah was an All-Pro in his own right last season at just 23 years old, and he stands to be one of the NFL’s best safeties for years to come. Though pick 47 seems a bit low, Fitzpatrick was still the first safety selected in the total NFL re-draft – surpassing players like Derwin James (pick 62) and Jamal Adams (pick 88).

In Mike Clay’s draft grade, he admitted that it’s ‘hard to fault’ the Minkah Fitzpatrick pick, and I would agree. Some of the players taken ahead of him include Cam Newton, Dalvin Cook, and Ryan Tannehill. I think Fitzpatrick’s selection at pick 47 is fair.
