Steelers fans haven’t seen much of their players in action since the season ended. Here’s a look at some of Pittsburgh’s pass rushers at work.

At this point in the offseason, Steelers fans are scratching and clawing to catch a glimpse of their players in action. The excitement from the NFL Draft has died off, and everyone is looking forward to the start of a new season.

Apart from a few videos of JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner working out together this offseason, there’s hasn’t been much in the way of catching drills. Recently, however, some of the Steelers top pass rushers and defensive lineman worked out with defensive and offensive line coach, Brandon Jordan.

Here’s a look at a video he posted to Twitter showing the Steelers pass rushers honing in on their moves:

Though it’s just 42 seconds worth of cutups, I must have watched this 15 times over. There are a few things that stand out to me. First, and most notable, is Ola Adeniyi.

Adeniyi is entering his third NFL season but is remarkably still just 22 years old. In these drills, Adeniyi showcased unbelievable dip and bend around the edge – something that he had put on display in each of his first two preseasons.

When comparing his run-through to Bud Dupree’s, there is no question that Adeniyi gets significantly lower when dipping the edge.

The other player that stands out in this video (for completely different reasons) is Big Dan McCullers. After watching Adeniyi, Dupree, Cameron Heyward, and Tyson Alualu tear through these drills, McCullers looks completely out of place. He can be seen turning the edge like a tugboat while showing virtually no knee bend.

In case you were wondering why a long, powerful player like McCullers has such difficulty finding the football field, the evidence is right in front of you. Though he has the ability to swallow up the run in the middle of the defense, McCullers has very limited ability rushing the passer.

Let’s be honest, a short clip of Steelers pass rushers taking the field doesn’t tell the whole story, but it is fun to gain a little insight as to how these players are looking for the upcoming NFL sesaon.

With Anthony Chickillo gone, Ola Adeniyi stands to be the first outside linebacker off the bench for the Steelers – even with them just spending a third-round draft choice on Alex Highsmith.

NFL training camps are still a month away, and that is when the real tests for these players will take place. For now, we will just continue to observe and critique from a distance.
