RB James Conner
James Conner is entering a contract season and his financial future is on the line. Though he was a Pro Bowl player in 2018, last year he took a step back in play – averaging just 4.0 yards per carry and 7.4 yards per reception.
What’s most concerning is his inability to stay healthy for more than just a few games at a time. Conner has missed 11 games in his first three NFL seasons, and he was more banged up in 2019 than he had been since entering the league.
Conner has proven to be a capable running back who can handle work on all three downs, but he certainly won’t be worth paying unless he stays on the field and his play takes a big step forward. Right now, I’d be really surprised if Pittsburgh re-signed him.
The Steelers have other players who need to step up their game in 2020, but these three have the most to prove this year. If they can improve their play, it will increase Pittsburgh’s chances of competing for a championship this season.
