10 fastest Pittsburgh Steelers players of the 2000s

Fastest Pittsburgh Steelers of all time: 3. Ike Taylor
Surprised to see Ike Taylor this high on the list? You really shouldn’t be. In fact, I could argue that he could be even higher. Though defensive backs don’t often get to show off their top-end speed as wide receivers do, Taylor was as fast as they came at cornerback.
According to a video of speed trainer Tom Shaw (who worked with some of the fastest players the NFL has seen), Taylor ran an electronic time of 4.26 in the 40-yard dash. There are some scouts who even had him as low as a 4.19.
Even if you add a tenth to these numbers, that is still blazing speed. Taylor was often asked to play off-coverage and wasn’t given many opportunities to get to top speed. While taking the ball away wasn’t his forte, he didn’t allow a lot of big plays in coverage down the field.
Taylor was not only an underrated cornerback for the Steelers, but he often gets overlooked when talking about the fastest Pittsburgh players of the past twenty years.
