Fans may not like to hear it, but this is where the Pittsburgh Steelers currently fall in line in the pecking order at the tight end position in their own division. Though the addition of Eric Ebron should make a significant difference, it’s hard to justify putting them over Cleveland or Baltimore.

This isn’t to say that the Steelers can’t leapfrog one of these teams, but both the Browns and Ravens have young, legitimate number one tight ends on their team. The problem with Ebron has always been his blocking ability. Though you could make the case for him being a top seven receiving tight end in the league, he often becomes a liability when forced to block.

Fortunately, Vance McDonald can make up for some of this, as the 267-pound tight end can line up in a number of areas on the field. These two working together should make a solid tandem. However, the depth behind them with just Zach Gentry is still poor.
