Conclusion

You see there is a pattern for how the Steelers draft and what positions they go for. The rhetorical point the Steelers say is they draft best player available and I think that plays a part in their drafting strategy but I also think they are strategic about which positions they draft.

As far as undrafted players, they usually take guys with good character who will be on time. There have been exceptions, but usually, they stay away from the bigger name undrafted free agents.

There is a pattern to how they have drafted in the last three years of the Colbert era. They have focused on defensive starters in the first round for a while now. They have also focused on wide receivers in the second round. They have looked for future starters in the third-round.

They have been able to fill their roster with players in the fourth through sixth round and have gotten some practice squad type players int he seventh round. Not all day three guys have made the team but many of them have.

This year, it will be harder for the guys who weren’t drafted and haven’t been on a 53-man roster to make the team. The Steelers went from having five preseason games to only having two. This will make it harder for guys on the bottom half of the 90-man roster to make the team.

This Corona Virus is a big wild-card. We don’t know who will get it during the season and if it will shorten or even get the season canceled. All we do know is this season is much more uncertain than in the past.
