Joe Haden

Haden has been a great corner with the Cleveland Browns and he has been a really nice signing for the Steelers. In the early part of his Steelers career, he was their top corner.

The Steelers went out and got Steven Nelson which has also been an effective signing and since has become the Steelers #1 corner. Joe Haden has thus become a #2 corner but still has more name recognition than Nelson.

Joe Haden is overhyped because he has had a great career in the NFL and has been to the Pro Bowl many times. It would be irrational to say that he is still in the prime of his career though.

In the Prime of Joe Haden’s career, he was a perennial top-five corner in the league. Now I would consider him just a decent starter. That is still good enough to help the Steelers and that’s why they should keep him around.

A storyline to keep in mind is if Joe Haden becomes too expensive and Justin Layne becomes ready to start. That would mean the Steelers could cut ties with Haden for the cheaper option.

Joe Haden will most likely be in the team in 2020 as he has a low base salary but in 2021 he has about seven million in base salary that the Steelers could save if they cut him.

For now, Joe Haden is a well paid and steady number two corner.
