Devin Bush

When Devin Bush was drafted in Pittsburgh, experts were calling Devin Bush the replacement to Ryan Shazier. But has Devin Bush replaced Ryan Shazier?

To me, Devin Bush was only an average mack linebacker as a rookie. He also was aided by Mark Barron to fulfill the coverage duties of the Steelers for linebackers.

Now Devin Bush will be asked to play a bigger role. He will be a full-time mack linebacker and second-year linebacker Ulysees S. Gilbert will be the top backup. There will probably be no replacement for Mark Barron on the roster in 2020.

Devin Bush did flash in the preseason in 2019 and did get better as the season went on. However, there are some big expectations for Bush in 2020.

The Steelers essentially gave up a first, second, and third-round pick to get Devin Bush at #10 and that indicates to me that they think highly of this guy and that is why they invested so much for him.

I thought his college tape was a bit overrated and the reason he got pick so high was his measurables. If he lives up to what his body is capable of, he could be a replacement for Ryan Shazier.

Until he proves it on the field though, I’m gonna put him in the over-hyped category and say that the good things he did in 2019 were flashes and that there will be a need to be more consistent in 2020.
