Benny Snell

Snell is my choice for the most underhyped out of the four players within this article. He flew pretty under the radar in 2019 despite putting up solid rookie numbers behind a struggling offensive line and dormant Steelers offense.

His college numbers served as a springboard for him being taken in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. He plays his position like a typical Steelers runner would, hard-nosed and physical.

He ran for 3,873 yards in just three seasons in college averaging 5.3 yards per carry. He also scored 48 touchdowns in that span.

Snell was a power run scheme’s dream heading into the draft so it is no wonder the Steelers came calling in the fourth. His bruising style allows him to fight through contact and grind out tough yards between the tackles.

He is not as athletic or fast as other backs in the NFL, but he does offer solid pass protection and the toughness to be an every-down back. His frame mixed with his balance and toughness can help him succeed as a runner in the league.

The Steelers have some work to do to improve the running game in 2020. James Conner will once again assume lead back duties, but, if injuries bite him again, the Steelers could look to Benny Snell to assume the lead role in 2020.

Conner is a great and versatile back when healthy but health has been a concern the last two seasons. Snell could get a huge opportunity should Conner not be able to avoid the injury bug again.

The Steelers roster storylines will likely be filled with big names like Watt, Roethlisberger, Smith-Schuster, and more but these four players deserve their own hype. However, it may be better if they have less hype and they can emerge from the depths of the unknown with their own stories of triumph in 2020 and beyond.
