2nd round (pick 60): WR Michael Gallup
Original pick: WR James Washington
The Steelers original pick here was Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington. After struggling as a rookie, Washington actually made great strides during his second NFL season without Ben Roethlisberger.
Washington is an extremely likable player who Pittsburgh really likes, but given the chance to make this pick over again, I would take Cowboys receiver, Michael Gallup. Washington and Gallup were ranked very close on my 2018 draft board (55 and 63, respectively). However, Gallup has been a better player through his first two seasons.
Last year, Gallup busted loose for 66 catches, 1,107 yards, and 6 touchdowns in 14 games, he shows some traits that suggest he may be able to develop into a true number one receiver at some point down the line.
It’s not that I think that James Washington isn’t a good player, but Gallup is better. I would upgrade the wide receiver position in round two of my 2018 re-draft.
