An extra team will make it in from each conference

If the return of Ben Roethlisberger and the re-emergence of the Steel Curtain wasn’t enough to convince you of why the Steelers will be in the playoffs this year than perhaps this will change your mind. The NFL voted to add one additional playoff team from each conference this year – meaning seven teams will no be in the tournament in the AFC.

Looking ahead, it’s obvious that teams like the Chiefs, Ravens, Bills, Patriots, and whoever wins the AFC South are all pretty much locks to get in. However, that leaves at least another two seeds up for grabs.

While we can’t just expect the Steelers to come in and win their division this year, it’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility to win between 9 and 11 games this year. Doing so will likely land them a playoff spot in the AFC.

Obviously, the ultimate goal is to win the Super Bowl, and getting into the playoffs is just one step of many that must be completed. However, if Ben Roethlisberger can stay healthy this year, there’s no reason to believe the Steelers won’t make the playoffs in 2020.
