Can Dupree repeat his 2019 season?

Bud Dupree was a major disappointment as a first-round pick entering last season. While was good for a steady half dozen sacks a season, his pressures were inconsistent leading to an upset fanbase. There was a change last season, as Dupree had his best season as a pro. While playing next to T.J. Watt was helpful, Dupree’s pass-rushing plan had developed.

He finds himself in a similar situation as last year, playing on the final year of his deal and hoping to earn a massive contract next year. Considering how good he made the defense last year; it is vital that Dupree maintains his level of play from last year. If he proves to be a one-hit-wonder, it may leave the Steelers in a crippling position at OLB.

While Dupree looks primed for another big year, he must answer if this is something he can do consistently every season. If I had to bet, I think he does excel and post similar numbers as to what he did last year. This isn’t a guarantee though, and a lot is riding on Dupree this season. The Steelers defense was elite last year, and part of that was due to Dupree being a force across from Watt. A repeat of that is important if the defense hopes to stay at this level.
